Setting 2024 Goals
How my 2023 goals went for me and how to set goals you can actionably achieve
This past week, upon returning from a restful vacation, I once again re-opened my trusty budget spreadsheet. I mainly use this Excel spreadsheet to track my financial spend but also include a more general tab labelled “Goals.” The first week of 2024 was the perfect time to revisit it.
Since 2022, I have been tracking my goals in 6 “health” categories: Physical, Mental, Financial, Spiritual, Social, and Intellectual. As examples, physical can include diet and exercise, mental health can include therapy and journaling, financial can include savings or retirement goals, spiritual can include joining a church or practicing compassion, social can include going on an overseas trip with a friend or hosting a reunion, intellectual can be to listen to X podcast episodes a month or learning a new language. Some of my mine have been very specific, such as eating my vitamins every day and raising my 401K percentage by 2% this year and others have been more general.
In the end, all of these categories feed into each other, as taking the time to care for the mind directly helps the body and vice versa. Similarly, having fulfilling relationships has been long studied to improve mental health. I do not restrict each of these categories to have a…
